Moving Forward

News at Goundrys | 27/02/2013

"There have been some big changes since we started" said Andy Goundry with a very buoyant market throughout 2005 and 2006 before the banking crisis that brought a halt to rapid price rises in the middle of 2007. "We have had to adapt to changing market conditions over the years and also to spot and be prepared to seize opportunities when they arise. During 2007 it became apparent that many sellers had to move, often to relocate for various reasons, but as the number of buyers reduced they would turn to letting their property and then rent in their new location. Having previously referred this business elsewhere, the decision to establish a lettings department was taken.

Since then this vital part of the business has grown substantially and continues to do so. It was also recognised that this intricate market sector required qualified personnel. Andy's daughter Emma quickly followed her residential sales CPEA qualification with the ARLA lettings industry standard and over the following 5 years headed up and developed the department to be a major success. This was then followed by her brother David, who, having started to assist with the accounts, following his business qualifications, joined the business as it grew and quickly also gained his ARLA qualifications . Following a winter sabbatical working in Australia, Emma will be returning to head up the Lettings operation, along with David, Karen and Danielle. Offering a" tenant find only" or "managed service" we pride ourselves on honest, competitive service and welcome the chance to speak to potential new landlords and tenants.

In 2009, The Sales operation was expanded with the acquisition of the long established (42 years) St Agnes estate agency of Lee and Co. With Andy's connections to the village having played for and managed at the St Agnes football club, his parents in law had also very successfully owned and run the Driftwood Spars Hotel at Trevaunance Cove for 24 years. "It seemed a natural progression and perfect fit with our city centre Truro sales office" said Andy. Remaining a very profitable part of the business the office is headed by Charlie Moon who grew up in St Agnes and ably assisted by Ginny Kay. The connections continue with Ginny having previously lived in St Agnes and her son and husband also playing football for the village team. As so it just happens, does David Goundry We undertake extensive press advertising which along with our extensive internet marketing on the leading Property web portals of Rightmove, Zoopla, Primelocation, Radar Homes and many others, we believe we can reach as many, if not more buyers than any other local agent says Andy. (Incidentally, Goundrypearce, have been number one in our market area on new instructions in both Lettings and Sales according to Rightmove and Zoopla statistics for the last 4 weeks)

So what else has changed? Well, at the end of 2012 Andy Goundry, along with his wife Karen, who has also worked in the company since 2007 in an administrative role, acquired the full ownership of the company after the departure of Clive Pearce. "Our priority is to continue moving the company forward" said Karen. We have invested in new IT with new computers at both offices, and eagerly await the launch of our new and significantly updated website due in the coming months."
